Surface Refurbishment Services in Wallingford, CT
Gagnon Painting & Decorating has been maintaining painted surfaces for over 40 years. Refurbishment covers what a repaint cannot hide: water stains, smoke damage, water-damaged drywall, and textured ceilings that have cracked or debonded.
No one at Gagnon Painting & Decorating LLC is affiliated with any insurance company. We work directly for you, which is why our recommendations are independent.
Textured ceilings are the Wallingford version of this problem
Wallingford's housing peaks in exactly the decades that produced textured ceilings. Of 19,418 units, 4,254 were built in the 1940s and 50s, with large further cohorts through the 1960s and 70s — the period when sprayed and stippled ceiling finishes were close to standard in new construction.
Those finishes fail in a specific and frustrating way. The texture debonds in patches rather than uniformly, so a small water event leaves a crater with sound texture around it. Spot-repairing is possible but the repair is usually visible, because matching a sprayed texture pattern from decades ago across a small patch is genuinely difficult. Often the honest answer is that removing the texture across the whole ceiling gives a better result than patching it.
We repair or remove textured ceilings, repair water-damaged drywall, and remove smoke odours and stains, per PDCA standard.
One important note for this housing: a ceiling in a home built before 1978 is pre-EPA-threshold, and texture removal disturbs a large painted area. That work belongs with a certified firm. We are an EPA Lead-Safe Certified Firm. We do not perform mold or fungi testing, abatement, remediation or air sampling.
Wallingford refurbishment questions
Should I patch my textured ceiling or remove the texture?
It depends on how visible the patch would be and how much of the ceiling is affected. Matching an old sprayed texture over a small area is difficult and the repair often reads from certain angles even when it is technically sound. Where the damage is extensive, or the ceiling is already tired, removing the texture across the whole room usually gives a better and more durable result. We will give you both options with prices.
Is texture removal a lead-safe job?
In a home built before 1978, yes — and 58.8% of Wallingford's housing dates from 1979 or earlier. Texture removal disturbs a very large painted surface, which is precisely the kind of work the EPA's rule exists for. Use a certified firm; we are one. This is worth asking of anybody who quotes you for it.
Will you deal with my insurance company?
We work for you rather than for an insurer — nobody here is affiliated with any insurance company. That means the scope we recommend is what the building needs. We believe the choice of who performs your refurbishment work should always be yours, and our goal is to restore the property to its original appearance.
